Music

AT CHURCH OF THE GOOD SHEPHERD, music is central to our worship. Through hymns, anthems, and instrumental offerings, we join the Church’s song that has echoed through the centuries—lifting our hearts and voices to the glory of God. Music shapes our faith, deepens our prayer, and draws us together as one body in Christ.

We enjoy a musical heritage that enriches our worship and shapes our hearts, minds, and souls for God's glory, and continues to inspire new generations of singers and instrumentalists. We have a variety of ensembles in which you can participate, each contributing to the rich beauty of our worship.

To get involved, Contact Elizabeth Gatter, Organist/Choirmaster.

THE GOOD SHEPHERD CHOIR

Ages 15 through 105

The Good Shepherd Choir sings at the 11:00am service throughout the year. This ensemble exists to glorify God through song and to build meaningful relationships through shared musical experience. No audition is required, though some experience reading music is highly encouraged.

Rehearsals take place on Wednesday evenings from 7:00 to 8:30 pm. in Room 210.

RSCM Chorus

3rd–8th Grade

Our RSCM Chorister offers young people the chance to grow musically, spiritually, and personally through a structured, progressive curriculum. Choristers build strong musical skills—learning to read music, sing with confidence, and work as part of a team—while also deepening their understanding of Christian faith and the Episcopal tradition. The program fosters leadership skills in both rehearsals and worship, encouraging responsibility, discipline, and service. As they advance, choristers can earn ribbons and medals that recognize their achievements and support future opportunities, including strong college applications. More than just a music class, RSCM helps shape well-rounded individuals grounded in faith, excellence, and community.

They sing weekly at the 8:30 a.m. service, meeting at 8 a.m. for a warmup. Rehearsals are held twice each week, on Wednesday evenings from 4:45 to 5:30 p.m. and on Sundays from 4:00p.m. to 5:00 p.m on the second floor of the Parish Hall. No audition is required.

The Cherub Choir

K–2nd Grade

The Cherub Choir is designed for our youngest singers. Children learn the basics of music through songs and movement, nurturing both musical and spiritual growth. This ensemble sings in worship on select Sundays and rehearses from 3:00 to 3:45 p.m. on Sunday afternoons. No audition is required.

Important Dates for Children’s Choirs

All families of young musicians should take note of our key dates for the program year. You can access the full calendar here.

Other Musical Opportunities for Children

If your child plays an instrument or enjoys singing solo, they are invited to share their talents at the Joyful Noise Recital on Sunday, November 16, at 2:30 pm. This event is a joyful celebration of the musical gifts of the children of Good Shepherd, shared in a supportive environment with family and friends. To participate, please fill out the registration form .

Change Ringing

Bell Tower

The eight bells in Good Shepherd’s tower were cast by the historic Whitechapel Bell Foundry in London and installed in 2004. These bells are rung using the English art of change ringing, a tradition that began in the 17th century. Change ringing involves ringing tuned bells in ever-changing mathematical sequences called methods, with each bell swinging in full circles and changing its position within the pattern.

We warmly welcome visiting ringers and anyone curious about this beautiful tradition. You can also explore the broader world of change ringing through the North American Guild of Change Ringers at www.nagcr.org
